Recreation in Tomakomai Experimental Forest

 

The total area of the forest covers about 2700 ha largely used for research and education on forest ecosystems. A large part of the forest is also open to visitors and is popular visit for citizens of Tomakomai.  This part contains a forest museum arboretum, ponds, lawns with a parking area and toilets. (please see the map below for its location). Parts of the forest where research is ongoing are off-limit for visitors. The river is part of the research in which fishes play an important role of the ecosytem. In the forest among others the brown bear is living peacefully without human interaction. To carefully study the forest ecosystem the following rules of use of Tomakomai Experimental Forest apply when visiting:

 

-do not enter off-limit areas in the forest

 

-do no fish

 

-during golden week and  when there is a forest fire chance register before entering the forest.

-do not leave any trash
